Markus Walcher becomes EMEA big fish for Barracuda

Former Phion man handed regional sales reins

Barracuda Networks has promoted Markus Walcher to a role overseeing sales across the EMEA region.

Walcher (pictured) joined the security, networking and backup vendor four years ago through its acquisition of Austrian network security vendor Phion. Prior to this he also held roles at companies including Systrex and T-Systems.

As EMEA sales vice president, he has now been put in charge of a 54-strong team of sales staff across the region and has the task of "consolidating established markets... [and] expanding the business operations into new markets".

He previously held a role as regional sales director for Austria and Switzerland, as well as eastern and southern Europe. Wieland Alge, EMEA general manager at Barracuda, saluted Walcher's credentials for the role.

"Markus' experience in sales is second to none," he said. "He brings a deep understanding of sales and knows exactly what it takes to be successful in the European region. Moving forward Markus will create further opportunities within the EMEA region, while concentrating on long-standing relationships."
