ANS Group beats off 19 rivals for lucrative university deal

Reseller to help the University of Cumbria move to the cloud

VAR ANS Group has fought off 19 rivals to scoop a multimillion-pound deal to develop the University of Cumbria's (UoC) cloud technology.

The Manchester-based firm will implement a new fully managed IT infrastructure supporting more than 13,000 users over 10 of the university's locations in a contract worth between £2m and £3m.

UoC hopes the deal will save 272 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions by cutting the institution's IT cooling costs almost in half every year.

ANS is set to take NetApp storage virtualisation FlexPod products to the university in a move it claims will provide it with a flexible system that can expand with its needs.

Paul Sweeney, the reseller's managing director, said: "The university, by its nature, has to adopt a complex and vast IT network and we are keen to navigate its IT landscape and provide a service which will help provide a noticeable difference to the university's staff and students."

Last summer, ANS Group vowed to double its revenue figure of £47m in just two years, and in February set its sights on an additional £10m of business after signing up with WAN solutions provider Metronet.
