Embotics welcomes in Zycko as Avnet axed

Private-cloud firm claims it ended relationship with Avnet on good terms

Private cloud management firm Embotics has signed up distributor Zycko after canning Avnet last month.

The vendor hopes its new distributor, which joins its UK line-up alongside Prianto, will offer it more focus than outgoing Avnet did following its acquisition of former Embotics distributor Magirus.

Colin Wright, Embotics' vice president for EMEA, said that while the firm ended its partnership with Avnet on good terms, it thinks Zycko will be a better fit for its growth strategy.

"It is fair to say that when any organisation is bought out by a larger one, things de-focus over a period of time. In our growth, we could not realistically sit and wait for six months to understand where the focus [on us] was, but Zycko fits our growth perfectly," he said.

"[The ending of the partnership] was not due to a negative on Avnet's part, but really due to the positives Zycko brings at this stage of our growth – it was a simple decision."

Wright added that he hopes Zycko will bring in a batch of quality resellers, but that Embotics is not necessarily hung up on how many VARs it signs up.

Cirencester-based Zycko was selected by Embotics due to its expertise in virtualisation and private-cloud technology, as well as its links to services-orientated resellers, according to Embotics, which claimed to be impressed with the firm's ability to support its partners.

The new partnership will enable resellers to target key Microsoft resellers as its latest vCommander product now supports the vendor's Hyper-V offering – a move Wright added will be beneficial for all involved.

David Galton-Fenzi, Zycko's chief executive, said he was excited about the new partnership and that its resellers will be more able to drive better returns for their customers with Emobtics' vCommander product.

At the start of 2013, Embotics targeted VMware partners ahead of the virtualisation giant axing its Lab Manager product. Today, Wright claimed that his firm has won a lot of end-user deals since the product reached its end of life.
