Fox resigns as VCW managing director
Graham Fox poised to unveil new venture after calling time on six-year stint at VAD
Distributor VCW Security claims it has lined up a well-known industry figure to replace managing director Graham Fox following his departure last month.
Fox resigned on 8 May, six years after joining VCW via its acquisition of Fresh Egg, a security VAD he founded in 2002.
VCW chairman Mike Harris said Fox's replacement has already been enlisted but could not yet be announced due to obligations to his current employer.
Having lost its largest vendor franchise with Fortinet in 2010 - and wireless LAN vendor Xirrus in 2011 - VCW signed a slew of new security vendors 18 months ago in a bid to move back into attack mode.
But Harris admitted not all of its current vendors are firing on all cylinders for the Shropshire-based VAD.
"The growth we have seen with Cyberoam is immense and Blue Socket and Adtran are growing all the time," he said. "But there's also quite a lot of clutter the new guy may want to clear out - he will have his ideas on which vendors he wants to be working with."
Harris brushed off suggestions that a material number of staff had followed Fox through the exit doors, stressing that VCW has recently taken on four new starters.
"It is business as usual," he said.
Talking to CRN, Fox - who currently lists himself as a consultant on Linked In - said he is close to unveiling his next venture.
"I can confirm I have left VCW and am doing something new that I think is extremely exciting," he said.
Ricky Knights, UK manager at Cyberoam, said the vendor remains supportive of VCW despite Fox's departure.
"They have been working very hard for us," he said. "Cyberoam have been one of VCW's leading vendors for some time and we no reason why that relationship shouldn't continue."
