Ramsac packs up for big move to larger Godalming office

Continued growth across many segments expected, spurring relocation

Ramsac is moving across the road in Godalming to a larger, 5,000-square-foot space this weekend, as a result of year-on-year growth that is tipped to continue for the next five to 10 years.

Dan May, commercial director at the specialist consultancy, said it expanded its turnover 20 per cent in the 2012-2013 year and has gone on adding staff. Today there are 45, and their first day of trading from the new Woolsack Way office, which had been vacant for 12 months, is 1 July.

"We are seeing growth all around really, in clients outsourcing technology to us, and also in our strategic services. We are seeing customers with existing IT teams looking for an additional level of strategic input to help technological planning and budgets, and we have won some nice outsourcing contracts," May told ChannelWeb. "The growth is a broad church."

So what are the secrets of its success? May said Ramsac has both cloud and non-cloud business, with a focus on offering genuine, objective advice to customers.

"One of our unique selling points has always been that we do not employ salespeople - we employ technologists," he said. "That is how we grow our business. It is about working strategically and giving the best advice. Nobody really likes to be 'sold' to."

He confirmed that Ramsac has continued to grow right through the recession, but said business confidence had markedly improved in the past 12 months.

With growth expected to continue over the next five to 10 years at Ramsac, the Surrey company is continuing with its vision of a collaborative modern workplace that includes hotdesking for mobile professionals such as network consultants.

"Core office teams will still have their own home, as it were," May said. "I think people like that. But field-based staff such as network consultants are often out of the office, and we have been looking at more ways to accommodate them."

Three new staff are starting next week, and two started a couple of months ago on the technical team. The company has also taken on a new Microsoft apprentice - it has trained five IT apprentices a year for the past four.

Robert May (pictured, right), managing director of Ramsac, said in a statement that a new facility was required to house the ever-expanding team and the facilities needed to serve customers.

"While looking at our financial year results and business planning in April, it had become clear that we were literally running out of space. To maintain the strong work ethic of collaboration all in one place, the decision was made to find new, larger premises," he said.

The 20-year-old firm is still hiring - according to the statement there are openings for another network consultant and support apprentice.
