Services and engineering reshuffle for Danwood

Some engineers in, some managers out and a new partnership for delivery and spares management, reseller confirms

Danwood is shaking up its services and engineering operations and will recruit a clutch of new engineers while "a small number of roles" will be shed as managerial positions are merged.

The print reseller indicated to CRN that it is currently recruiting for 10 engineers across the UK at the same time as revamping the middle management structure that oversees its engineering workforce. A number of existing field-based service management roles are to be merged, with a new title of customer service manager to be created.

Each of these will have responsibility for looking after about 15 engineers, a figure which Danwood stressed is in line with comparable structures elsewhere in the channel. Sources have told CRN that about 40 staff currently holding a service manager and service director post will be affected by the revamp, and the VAR admitted that "a small number of regionally based roles" may ultimately be shed.

In conjunction with the structural rejig, a new partnership with delivery and technical services specialist ByBox has been agreed. The move is designed to provide a step change in the Lincoln-based reseller's spares management and delivery processes.

In separate news, Danwood confirmed that its northern commercial sales director Richard Appleton recently quit the firm to work outside the print industry. The VAR wished him well for the future. Earlier this week long-serving director Graham Reeve retired after 26 years at the firm. He most recently served as strategy and regional business director, and has been a director since 1991.
