Pro flat panel sales down in Q2 worldwide

Samsung the only vendor to see growth in EMEA this quarter

Some 522,000 professional flat-panel displays were shipped around the world in Q2 2013 – a decline of 0.7 per cent from the previous quarter, according to Futuresource Consulting.

However, sales were up 4.8 per cent on the year-ago quarter, which only registered 521,998 global shipments, the firm said.

"The Asia-Pacific and EMEA regions both experienced negative quarter-on-quarter growth, as sales in key markets – Japan, India, Germany, France, and Russia – declined over the quarter.

"Samsung was the only leading brand to experience growth this quarter, finding opportunities in key countries where other vendors failed," according to its announcement.

The Americas saw consecutive quarter growth but that was the only region to do so, it added.

In product terms, super-narrow-bezel displays have been in decline as a category but saw a recovery in Q2, bouncing back 10 per cent in shipment terms worldwide.

Displays with bezels of less than five millimetres in width actually expanded 15.5 per cent in the quarter, according to Futuresource.
