Oracle sued over five-figure strip club bill

San Francisco gentlemen's establishment claims $33,540 bill on corporate credit card remains unpaid

Oracle is being sued over an alleged unpaid strip-club bill of more than $30,000.

A summons filed with the Superior Court of California reveals that Bijou Century LLC – a Nevada-based company which runs the New Century Theater adult entertainment venue in San Francisco – is suing Oracle Corporation and an individual named as Jose Manuel Gomez Sanchez.

The action relates to an alleged bill of $33,540 (£20,920) run up by Sanchez over two visits to the club last year, during which he is claimed to have used a corporate American Express card issued to Oracle. Interest will be added to the bill at a rate of 10 per cent per annum from 3 September 2013 onwards, according to the lawsuit document.

The summons states: "Although demand has been made, [the] defendants have failed and refused and continue to fail and refuse to pay said indebtedness and every part thereof, even though the same and every part thereof is now due, payable and unpaid."

New Century Theater's claim relates to two visits made to the establishment by Sanchez on 2 and 4 October last year, during which time the annual Oracle OpenWorld event was taking place in the Californian city.

An array of receipts from the club – for charges ranging from $550 to $2,400 – are included in the summons documents. Each is reportedly signed and thumbprinted by Sanchez.

The lawsuit was filed on 3 September and gave Oracle and Sanchez 30 days to respond. The software giant was warned that "the court may decide against you without your being heard unless you respond within 30 days".

Oracle declined to comment.
