Infinigate joins forces with Ipswitch File Transfer
Pair claims partnership will help both SMBs and enterprises keep on top of fast-changing security tech legislation
Security VAD Infinigate has signed up with Ipswitch File Transfer in a move the duo claims will help resellers and customers get a better grip on their security technology in light of an influx of new data protection legislation.
Infinigate - which bought a majority share in distie Vigil before the firm was fully integrated with its brand in April - will have rights to promote and sell US-headquartered Ipswitch's products to its UK VAR base.
The partnership came into play this month and will see the VAD offer its resellers marketing campaigns, sales initiates and training in both sales and tech.
Infinigate will be tasked with signing up a flurry of new security resellers for its new vendor partner's file-transfer products, including managed file-transfer system MOVEit and its secure FTP (File Transfer Protocol) products.
Ipswitch's vice president for sales Loic Triger said that new data protection rules will drive more end users to beef up their security, which will be good news for the channel.
"The UK is a strong market for us, with both public and private organisations striving to keep in line with the Data Protection Act and the latest specific industry compliance," he said. "The UK Commissioner's Office is taking a firmer interest in UK businesses that don't meet standards, heightening the risk of fines and reputational damage caused by the loss of sensitive data.
"Infinigate is a recognised leader in UK security solutions, with an impressive understanding of the market and a strong history of delivering compelling security systems that meet the needs of British institutions and businesses."
Incoming changes from the European Union (EU) to the Data Protection Act will mean - among other things -that companies will be obliged to report any breaches of data protection regulations or data leaks to EU authorities as well as affected individuals within 24 hours. The EU will also be able to impose a fine of up to two per cent of a company's worldwide turnover in severe cases.
Ipswitch is not the first vendor to encourage resellers to cash in the on the data protection changes, as Trend Micro also flagged the issue earlier in the year.
Infinigate's co-managing director Murray Pearce (pictured) said: "The demand for secure managed file transfer is increasing. It is imperative that we only work with vendors that have the most comprehensive and robust solutions available, which is why we chose Ipswitch File Transfer."
