Arrow trainees hit targets

Distributor expands apprentice scheme as six trainees successfully complete their training at its Harrogate offices

Arrow is expanding its apprentice scheme after its initial six students celebrated the successful completion of its work-based training programme.

The trainees had undertaken training in the firm's finance, marketing, HR or sales support/operations departments, where they have studied for an NVQ in their chosen field.

Initially taken on a 12-month contract, the apprentices are now employed on a permanent basis at the Harrogate-based firm.

Aimee Whitaker, who completed an apprenticeship in HR, said: "For anyone who prefers to learn by doing, rather than sitting in a classroom, working towards an NVQ is ideal. We gather evidence from our day-to-day work to prove that we can do the job, creating a portfolio that is regularly checked by an external assessor, who also observes how we carry out specific tasks.

"Joining a proper apprenticeship scheme is the opportunity to learn valuable workplace skills, gain a recognised qualification and earn while you learn.”

Martine Hill, HR director at Arrow, added: "We are delighted that all of our 2012 apprentice intake have successfully completed their training and are now setting out on their career with Arrow. Offering apprenticeships enables employers to grow their own workforce and develop the skills that are necessary for sustainable success.

"We are so pleased with the successful outcome of the first year that we have extended the scheme for a second year and have recruited three apprentices in Harrogate, in Professional Services, and Sales Support/Operations, and one apprentice in MIS (Management Information Systems) at our Nottingham office.”
