Accumuli snaps up top UK Splunk partner

Security VAR moves into big data analytics with £1.9m purchase of Bracknell-based VAR EQALIS

Acquisitive security VAR Accumuli has gobbled up the UK's only Splunk-authorised training provider in a bid to bolster its big data skills.

Accumuli has stumped up £1.9m to buy Bracknell-based EQALIS, which punts Splunk and other big data analytics solutions designed to help organisations monitor, manage and gain visibility of their security and operational risks.

Accumuli chief executive Gavin Lyons said the purchase would complement the security incident and event management (SIEM) skills it gained through its £3.2m acquisition of another VAR, EdgeSeven, last June.

"Big data monitoring and analytics is now intrinsically linked with security and operational excellence and EQALIS has been addressing these challenges and delivering great results to its customers for the last six years," he said.

"EQALIS has prospered through its very close relationship with Splunk and the addition of its consultancy and training skill set complements the expertise we acquired through the acquisition of EdgeSeven, the SIEM consultancy, and greatly enhances both our solutions and services capabilities."

EQALIS, which also partners with Prelert, Puppet Labs and App Dynamics, has seven staff, all of whom will join Accumuli, including founders Ian Tinney and Kevin Tunsley.

Accumuli billed its conquest as the UK's leading Splunk partner, citing the fact it won partner of the year for UK, Africa and Ireland for the last two years.

Having netted a cool £6.3m when it sold its Webscreen IP to Juniper in February, Accumuli saw revenues rise 17 per cent to £14.8m in its most recent financial year ending 31 March.

Since then, the AIM-listed firm – whose share price has more than doubled this year – has also acquired two-factor authentication outfit Signify. Its interim results are due out some time this week.
