Trustwave tempts partners with penetration testing on demand

Security vendor wants more partners to sell its services portfolio

Trustwave has urged partners to use its new on-demand penetration testing service to uncover sales opportunities among their customers.

The security vendor last week launched its new Managed Security Testing (MST) platform to the channel as it looks to attract more resellers to punt its services alongside its PCI compliance, SIEM and network security wares.

The platform, which allows resellers to manage their end users' penetration testing needs from a single pane of glass, supersedes Trustwave's manual SpiderLabs penetration testing services, which have now been discontinued.

The penetration tests will be carried out using toolsets developed by Trustwave's 140-strong team of ethical hackers and techniques traditionally deployed by cybercriminals.

Following a series of acquisitions, including M86 last year and, more recently, database security vendor Application Security, Trustwave now has 1,200 employees and 2.7 million customers.

Brooks Wallace (pictured), vice president of UK sales at Trustwave, said about eight partners had previously offered its manual penetration and other SpiderLabs services but hoped this would rise on the back of the MST launch.

"It's a quick, transactional business and identifies opportunities for them to talk about other projects," he said. "We find it leads to a lot of projects around compliance, security information and event management and web application firewalls."

Update

Following the publication of this article, Trustwave has got in touch to clarify that "manual penetration testing is still alive and well and a key part of our managed security testing (MST) platform".
