Aldi jumps on the bargain tablet bandwagon

Discount supermarket to undercut Tesco's discount tablet by £40

Supermarket Aldi is the latest retailer to eye up the tablet market, with the discount supermarket launching its first device to rival Tesco's recently launched Hudl.

Aldi's Medion Lifetab Android tablet (pictured) retails at £79.99, much less than Tesco's Hudl tablet which sells at £119 or about £100 if purchased with a Tesco Clubcard.

The Medion Lifetab, which hit the shelves yesterday, runs on Android's Jelly Bean operating system, includes two integrated cameras and a USB port and weighs 310g.

Kaspersky's Tablet Security product is included on the device, on which Aldi offers a three-year warranty.

The tablet market has had an explosive 2013 and analyst Canalys predicts sales of the devices will outstrip that of PCs just next year.

It said this year, tablets made up 40 per cent of all PCs - notebooks, desktops and tablets, but by next year, it will represent half of the market.
