Oracle to boost software-defined networking offer
Virtualisation capabilities expanded in latest US acquisition plan
Oracle has entered into a deal to buy a WAN-focused software-defined networking (SDN) company called Corente.
Corente, based in New Jersey, US, makes a WAN virtualisation platform aimed at speeding up customers' ability to deploy cloud apps and services.
Terms of the proposed deal were not revealed by either vendor.
Edward Screven, chief corporate architect at Oracle, said the buy increases its offerings' ability to work across customer datacentres and global networks.
"By combining Oracle's technology portfolio with Corente's industry-leading platform extending SDN to global networks, enterprises will be able to easily and securely deliver applications and cloud services to their globally distributed locations," Screven said in Oracle's market announcement.
Corente's platform, according to Oracle, can deliver, secure, and manage distributed applications over diverse networks to any site, regardless of the type of transport, access, app, or provider.
Oracle is currently reviewing the Corente product road map, which also includes a services portal and services gateway. The proposed transaction is still subject to regulatory approval and each company will continue to operate independently in the meantime.
Corente vendor partnerships include VMware, IBM, BT and Cisco.
