Stack looks to evolve with Darwin deal

Merseyside VAR plots a "raft of leisure contracts" after being tasked to refresh network for holiday park firm

The Stack Group is intending to grow aggressively in the leisure sector after winning a deal to supply a new network to holiday park firm Darwin Property Investment Management.

The Liverpool reseller, which celebrates its 35th birthday this year, has been tasked by Darwin to deploy a fibre, copper, and wireless infrastructure. The rollout is part of a wider project that will see a consortium of businesses refurbishing four holiday parks in Cheddar, the Isle of Wight, Mullion Cove, and Newquay.

Between them the quartet house more than 400 lodges, each of which is being equipped with its own wireless access point. The network will also be designed to be a platform from which other IP technologies can be provided.

"The systems we are installing will not just supply super-fast wireless to guests, it will also act as a technology backbone for the holiday parks, giving them the flexibility to add in new systems and technologies easily over the next few years," said Stack chief executive Jeff Orr. "It's an IP solution capable of delivering the guests technology requirements into the foreseeable future."

The Darwin deal may extend to other sites in the future, and Orr added that the contract could also be the springboard for further success for his firm in the leisure sector.

"We are expecting considerable demand and growth in the leisure sector for new broadband and IP infrastructure systems in the next few years and our work with Darwin could be the start of a raft of leisure contracts," he said. "The successful system we are developing here could act as a blueprint for further projects and I'm looking forward to growing the leisure side of the business."
