Davies rides high with Mustangs across America
Context chief exec to drive his classic car across the US for charity
The boss of channel research firm Context, Jeremy Davies, is driving his 1966 Ford Mustang convertible across America in April for charity.
At the time of going to press, 419 Mustangs from all over the world were expected to make the trip - Mustangs across America, a 2,400-mile drive from Los Angeles in California to the Mustang Club of America show in Charlotte, North Carolina.
This year's event from 10 to 16 April marks the 50th anniversary of the first-ever Ford Mustang. By participating, Davies is aiming to raise £10,000 for the British Heart Foundation.
Wild horses couldn't drag Davies away from his much-loved classic machine (pictured above, with Davies, and below, being readied for the trip). Some participants from abroad will rent their Mustangs in the US, but Context's Davies is shipping his over specially.
"The car is called 'Beauty', just because she is. She's a 1966 Mustang convertible in Wimbledon white, black interior and black convertible top," Davies said.
"With a V8 engine and automatic gearbox she is the perfect cruiser. In 2008 I had her extensively restored, with sympathetic upgrades such as power brakes with front discs, an overdrive gearbox, three-point seat belts, rack and pinion steering, all designed to keep the original look and feel but with the ability to cruise safely at 80mph on today's roads."
His favourite aspect? "That long, long front bonnet that you look over as you drive. There's nothing like it," he said. "I wouldn't miss this for the world."
