The bald truth about Pure Storage's boss

CEO Scott Dietzen shaves head after losing bet that his firm could not double in size sequentially

Pure Storage boss Scott Dietzen has been left with no hair after his company managed to double in size sequentially, meaning he lost a bet with staff.

Dietzen and Pure president Dave Hatfield bet the rest of the company's staff that they could not double the business from the third to fourth quarter last year, and said if he was proved wrong, he would cut off all his hair.

"At the time, it sure seemed like a safe, fun way to challenge the team to overachieve," Dietzen said. "As an organisation grows, sequential doubling gets harder and harder.

"Now we've unfortunately found out what my head is shaped like under my fading fur."

By bidding his hair a fond farewell, Dietzen managed to raise $35,000 (£21,060) for US charity Project Night Night which provides homeless children with essentials.

In 2013, all-flash technology firm Pure managed to rocket 700 per cent annually after growing by more than half sequentially for the whole of the year.

Dietzen has been a keen proponent of the channel since launching the firm's partner programme.

"Pure and our partners are racking up these successes because we got the technology disruption right, with a business model and a partner programme that is suited to the goal."
