Comodo sinks teeth into e92plus

Security vendor signs up first UK distributor for warranty-backed auto-sandboxing technology

Security distiributor e92plus has hailed new signing Comodo as an opportunity for resellers to differentiate themselves in the commoditised anti-virus space.

Unlike traditional anti-virus vendors who rely on blacklisting and whitelisting techniques, Comodo's auto-sandboxing offering is designed to snuff out zero-day malware by quarantining unknown files.

The vendor is so confident in its wares that it is offering a $5,000 cashback guarantee to any business customer that suffers a malware outbreak.

Neil Langridge, marketing manager at e92plus, claimed that Comodo would enable resellers to differentiate themselves in a commoditised market characterised by wafer-thin margins.

"AV is tough - there's not a lot of differentiation out there and what Comodo is doing is definitely different," he said.

"I don't know of any other AV company saying we'll give you a lot of money if our product doesn't catch a virus. If you view AV as a bit of insurance, why not have that level of protection?"

Langridge said Comodo, whose roots are in the SSL certificate space but is only now moving into the endpoint market, is in the process of bringing on about a dozen resellers.

"They're bringing us on board to get in front of a lot more partners," he said.

"Resellers don't always get involved in AV as they view it as being commoditised and not having great margins. This is something new and exciting they can talk to their customers about that offers a little bit of differentiation."
