HID identifies Infinigate as second UK distributor

Physical and network security vendor tasks Infinigate with growing UK business by a third

Identity and access management vendor HID Global has added Infinigate as a second UK distributor alongside Arrow ECS.

Inifinigate, which already worked with HID in the Dach region and Scandinavia, has been tasked with growing HID's UK business by 30 per cent year on year.

Infinigate UK co managing director Alex Teh said HID - which bought smartcard authentication vendor ActivIdentity in 2010 - is one of the few vendors to tackle physical and network security in a holistic fashion.

"It's a unique proposition in the market," said Teh.

Infinigate would go head to head with Arrow but would focus on value in contrast to Arrow's "broader-based approach", he added.

"We are looking to have a training course and provide demos and knowledge transfer capability for partners who want to learn how to install the product," Teh said.

"We also plan to integrate HID with our single sign-on and SSL technologies such as NetillaOS (NorthBridge) and Aventail (Dell SonicWall)."

Although HID does have some named accounts, most of its UK business is conducted through the channel, Teh added.

Cris Pikes, chief executive of Sysec, which claims to be HID's largest UK partner, described the appointment as a "sensible move".

"It means they will have a more niche specialist alongside a more mainstream distributor like Arrow," he said.

Antoine Ubaghs channel sales manager at HID, said in a statement: "We are confident that we have found a focused security distributor that will help us to build the channel business for our unique solutions that offer secure access to the door, data and cloud using a single authentication device."
