Oncore IT renews cloud deal at shipping firm
Vessels all at sea without help from London cloud services provider
London-based cloud services specialist Oncore IT has renewed its managed services contract with global shipping and airfreight firm NYK Group Europe for three years.
According to Paul Cook, sales and marketing director at Oncore IT, the deal involves working directly with Japan-headquartered NYK's in-house IT arm, NYK Business Systems Europe, at its London offices.
"Under the terms of the agreement, Oncore IT will deliver a range of IT services including helpdesk support, all end-user device, storage and server management, 24/7 remote monitoring, and maintenance," Cook said.
"Furthermore, it will continue to support the technology on board 13 vessels which transport liquefied natural gas."
Leo van der Werf, deputy branch manager at NYK Business Systems Europe, said that NYK IT support was once managed entirely in-house.
"We moved away from this to work with a third-party specialist that is able to support the business with services backed by solid SLAs to guarantee performance," Werf said.
Oncore IT is deploying a team of four – an IT manager and three engineers – at NYK's London office to support the team at Oncore IT's own network operations centre.
Tokyo-based NYK Group is a $23bn (£13.6bn) company with 55,000 employees as well as 846 ships and fleets of planes, trains, and trucks that transport goods around the world. Decade-old Oncore IT has offices and datacentres in both London and Amsterdam.
