Reports - Acer founder Shih set to quit chairman post

More managerial movement at embattled vendor

Acer founder Stan Shih is to relinquish his chairmanship of the firm after a topsy-turvy recent past in which four men were tasked with leading the company inside two months.

The Taiwanese vendor's managerial musical chairs began in November when chief executive J T Wang resigned, with Jim Wong scheduled to replace him from the start of 2014. But just two weeks later the incoming boss also tendered his resignation, six weeks before he had even begun the role.

Shih then came out of retirement to take the reins on a temporary basis, and acted swiftly to appoint former Intel exec Jason Chen as CEO just before Christmas. The company founder is now also to retire from his post as chairman of the board, according to a Reuters article citing local news outlet Cnyes.com.

The 69-year old has reportedly steadied the ship during his brief return by introducing a number of reforms. Acer's board will reportedly meet later this week to pick a new chairman. Shih will move to a role leading Acer's nascent cloud computing business.
