Samsung Electronics boss 'stable' following heart attack

Lee Kun-Hee rushed to hospital over weekend now recovering from surgery

The chairman of tech giant Samsung Electronics, Lee Kun-Hee, is recovering in hospital following a heart attack, resuscitation and surgery yesterday.

Lee, 72, is now stable at Samsung Medical Centre in Korea, according to Bloomberg this morning.

The third son of Samsung founder Lee Byung Chull replaced his father in 1987.

Lee Kun-Hee (pictured) remains South Korea's richest man and was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2005.

Under his leadership, the Suwon-based firm became the world's largest IT company by revenue in 2009 and has retained that spot.

It is also the world's largest manufacturer of smartphones, memory chips and TVs.

Samsung Electronics, a subsidiary of the massive, diverse Korean chaebol Samsung Group, has seen its shares boosted 130-fold since Lee took charge, Bloomberg noted.
