G-Cloud sales smash £175m barrier
Majority of sales snapped up by SMBs
G-Cloud sales to date have surpassed the £175m mark, with SMBs snapping up 60 per cent of the overall transactions by value.
By the end of April, sales excluding VAT hit £175.5m, up from £159m the month before.
Throughout last month, £11m worth of sales – 69 per cent – went to SMBs and of the cumulative sales total, £106m – 60 per cent – went to small suppliers.
Overall, central government placed the lion's share of orders, with 80 per cent of total sales by value going through central departments. The wider public sector, local government, not-for-profit firms and other buyers combined account for only 20 per cent of the total spend.
The government framework has vowed to pull its socks up in terms of marketing itself to the wider public sector after research found that most local authorities had no idea what G-cloud even is.
According to Cabinet Office data, the largest transaction on the framework last month was a £820,000 purchase by the Defence Equipment and Support while the smallest deal was a 2p sale to the Rural Payments Agency.
