Facebook to launch into enterprise comms - report
Facebook insider lets plans for 'FB@Work' slip
Facebook is working on an enterprise-focused platform designed to help employees communicate more effectively in the workplace, according to a report.
A Facebook insider told TechCrunch that "Facebook at Work" – or FB@Work, as it is being referred to internally – will make work more fun.
"We are making work more fun and efficient by building an at-work version of Facebook," the source said. "We will touch code throughout the stack and on all platforms (web, iOS, Android and so on)."
It is unclear whether the effort, which is being spearheaded by the firm's London team, will be positioned as a rival to business-focused networks such as LinkedIn, or marketed as a separate enterprise communication platform.
Microsoft has its own business-focused social network, Yammer, and services such as Google Apps give staff the chance to instant message each other on its own chat platform.
No further details were divulged by the insider and Facebook was not available to comment.
