Quantum Union made for UK managed services

Deduplication hardware will be incorporated into IaaS offering

Quantum has signed a deal with UK IaaS provider Union Solutions to enable the latter to harness its virtualised deduplication appliances.

Alex McLoughlin, chief technology officer at Union Solutions, said the vendor was chosen for its "unique approach" to data protection.

"We're delighted to be a part of its MSP programme," McLoughlin said. "This was an obvious step for us, especially as we're in the market to help our customers reduce costs and mitigate risk. With Quantum's software-based technology integrated into our BackupPoint service, we'll have the flexibility."

Union Solutions has already started layering Quantum's technology into both new and existing customer infrastructures through its cloud backup-as-a-service offering, he said, with a view to creating an affordable end-to-end cloud backup and disaster recovery platform.

Chris Bowring, channel sales director for Northern Europe at storage vendor Quantum, said the approach Union is taking will help the MSP manage customer data while using deduplication in cloud backup as well.
