Intrinsic wins Welsh hardware deal

Reseller to provide National Assembly for Wales with servers and maintenance services

Intrinsic has fought off five rivals to seal a lucrative IT hardware deal with the National Assembly for Wales (NAW).

The reseller will provide the NAW – which is the Welsh equivalent of the UK parliament – with HP servers as well as a range of maintenance and repair services for data networks and other IT kit. As part of the deal, it will supply 6,500 Cisco network chassis, firewalls, switches and wireless access points.

The deal was initially thought to be worth in the region of £250,000 but its final value when awarded to Intrinsic came in less than half that at £122,000, according to a recently published contract award notice. The deal will last for four years, it said.

The price of the kit was the criterion with the strongest weighting in the NAW's decision, with supplier flexibility, service level and delivery also taken into account.
