Projectors continue to gain in Q2

Global market estimated at double-digit growth

Worldwide projector sales enjoyed broad-based expansion across all regions and many industry segments last quarter, according to PMA Research.

The quarter ending 30 June 2014 saw shipments jump to 2.2m globally, the California-based market analyst said, up from two million in Q1 of 2014.

"In advanced markets, particularly the US and western Europe, widescreen resolutions continued to outperform the market and take share from XGA," PMA Research said in its announcement.

"The continued recovery in education budgets, particularly in the US and western Europe, drove a robust gain in sales of Wide XGA interactive projectors."

HD projector sales in Europe were fuelled by price cuts, business adoption, and the World Cup. Asia and the US also saw strong sales in the quarter for 1080p projectors, the analyst said.

Shipments of mainstream projectors rose across all industry segments in China; worldwide sales of entry-level projectors rose sharply as education tenders in Africa and other emerging markets combined with e-tail sales in more mature markets to sustain SVGA volumes, it said.

At the expensive end of the market, sales hit "an all-time high" for a first half due to US purchases of super-bright models. There was also more spending in the US, western Europe, Japan and South Korea on large-venue, public entertainment projectors including projectors for large corporate meeting rooms and university auditoria.

Sales of mainstream, high-end, pico, and personal projectors all saw double-digit growth year on year, according to PMA Research.
