VIP Computers cancels Evolution exhibition

Distributor concludes event would not have offered its vendors ROI

Components distributor VIP Computers has announced the cancellation of its third annual Evolution exhibition.

Set to be held at the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry on 19 September, the event (pictured above in its first year in 2012) was canned after VIP concluded it would not deliver the ROI it and its vendor partners required.

The Warrington-based firm had hoped to attract over 300 independent retailers, etailers and system builders to the event, which had counted Microsoft, Intel and AMD as among its main partners in previous years.

"We understand that there will be disappointment within the channel, because we've had consistently good feedback about the first two events," said VIP director Rich Marsden.

"Evolution has always been about delivering ROI, and given this is a primary concern for both our vendors and VIP, the decision to cancel Evolution is one that we were not afraid to take for that reason."

Marsden added: "We will continue to work closely with our vendors and customers to develop new opportunities. We already have plans in the pipeline that we look forward to announcing in due course."
