Lumension restructures following Clearlake takeover

UK headcount pruned ahead of expected integration with fellow portfolio company NetMotion

Lumension says it remains committed to its channel despite making cutbacks to its UK team in the wake of its takeover by Clearlake Capital.

Clearlake acquired Lumension on 1 May and is understood to be merging the endpoint security vendor with another of its tech portfolio companies, mobile VPN outfit NetMotion. The two vendors already share the same CEO.

As a result of the restructuring, two UK staff are understood to have moved on, with further cutbacks being made in the US.

"While we recently restructured our channel operations, we remain committed to the channel and ensuring a very strong business for our partners," Lumension said in a short statement to CRN.

Partners CRN spoke to expect Lumension to be run as a separate brand but gather that Clearlake is keen to exploit synergies between the verticals in which the two vendors operate.

Lumension, which specialises in vulnerability management, endpoint protection, data protection, antivirus and reporting and compliance, is known for its public sector bent, while NetMotion boasts a strong prowess among blue-light customers including the police.

"It's all about growing the business, so [Clearlake] is not going to ditch a well-known brand," said one source. "The Lumension brand will be retained in some form."

Clearlake claims to currently manage about $1.4bn of equity capital. Besides NetMotion, its other IT investments include managed services outfit ConvergedOne, mobile device management player Mformation and performance monitoring software vendor Mycom.

Counting Bluefort, Preventia and Armadillo among its UK partners, Lumension moved to a sole distributor model with e92plus last year.

Neil Langridge, marketing manager at e92plus, said that Lumension partners would benefit from Clearlake's influence.

"E92plus enjoy an excellent relationship with Lumension, and since their acquisition by Clearlake Capital we've been excited about the opportunities and investment they are bringing to the UK operation," he said.

"The new technologies and developments, in particular the NetMotion solution that's already part of the Clearlake group, will bring significant potential to our reseller partners, and only grow the size of the opportunity in the secure endpoint and mobility markets."
