TalkTalk Business outage under control: engineer update

Business customers and partners affected by broadband speed and connectivity problems all morning

TalkTalk Business engineers have been working to roll back overnight upgrades to the core network believed the cause of widespread customer outages this morning.

According to TalkTalk Business, a range of services including Ethernet were initially thought to be affected – but engineers have now confirmed that only DSL was taken down.

However, they added that the rollback has now been completed successfully, and DSL services should now be coming back online.

"If you are still having connection issues on a DSL circuit ... please try a reboot of your CPE, to try to re-initiate authentication requests. If the issue persists beyond 12:15, please contact [support provider] TSC to discuss further," it said in a latest update to customers.

"We are now seeing better response across the board. Any CPE that you may have changed to use a smaller MTU value will need to have this change reverted."

Mid-morning, some customers were asked to alter their MTU to below 1,460 in an attempt to mitigate speed and connectivity issues.

Lancs-based telecoms provider Daisy, a partner of TalkTalk Business, saw some of its customers experiencing outages from 9:12am this morning. It has been tweeting regular updates as TalkTalk Business made these available.

Daisy did not offer specific comment this morning but issued this message: "If any customers are still experiencing an issue, please contact your customer service team."

There have been some scattered reports of issues affecting leased lines as well.

According to outage reporting site Downdetector.co.uk, recent reports of problems with TalkTalk have originated mostly from London, Brighton, Exeter, Hastings, Bracknell, Southampton, Clevedon, Blackwood, Edgware, and Gloucester.

About 27 reports of problems were made between 7am and 11am this morning, and there were steady reports – with 80 per cent relating to internet outages – through yesterday (Monday 18 August) as well.
