Microsoft mulls September launch for Windows 9 - reports

Preview thought to be launched on 30 September

Microsoft is set to lift the lid on its next operating system next month, according to reports.

Sources speaking to The Verge said the software giant has a press event lined up for 30 September, at which it will outline the next Windows release.

It is thought that the new Windows iteration will be made available as a preview to developers first.

Microsoft has remained tight-lipped on the Windows 8 successor, which is codenamed Threshold and is expected to be named Windows 9 when it comes to market.

At its Worldwide Partner Conference in July, Microsoft's chief operating officer Kevin Turner gave little away about the next version, simply claiming that improvements were on the way.

Microsoft was unavailable to comment.
