Channel bigwigs join the Ice Bucket fun

Martin Hellawell and Phil Doye among those to get an icy dousing

The UK channel has got in on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, with a handful of familiar faces getting an icy dousing for charity.

Kelway's chief executive Phil Doye and Softcat chairman Martin Hellawell (pictured, top) are among those who took part in the challenge, which raises money for charities supporting those with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or motor neurone disease as it is known in the UK.

The challenge involves a bucket of icy water being thrown over the head of a nominated person, who donates cash and in turn gets to nominate others to take part.

Last week, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, HP's chief executive Meg Whitman and Cisco's boss John Chambers were among those in the technology industry to get involved.

Over the weekend, the UK channel got in on the action too.

Kelway's managing director Dan Laws (pictured, right) was among the first UK channel faces to take the plunge in his video, nominating his boss Doye to have a go too.

After completing the challenge, Doye then nominated Martin Hellawell, chairman of his "favourite competitor" Softcat, to take the plunge, along with Avnet's sales director Laura Bouchard and CRN's executive editor Sara Yirrell.
