Tech Data seals deal with washable-keyboard vendor

Distie hopes Seal Shield kit will go down well in the public sector

Tech Data UK has teamed up with washable-device vendor Seal Shield in a move it hopes will see its resellers win big deals with infection-conscious customers.

US-headquartered Seal Shield was founded in 2006 and specialises in washable electronics coated with an anti-infection layer it calls its Silver Seal.

The firm manufactures hygienic keyboards and mice as well as covers for smartphones and tablets – all of which it claims are able to be fully submersed in water for deep cleaning.

Tech Data's category manager for components, Simon Hughes, said he hopes the new signing will attract customers across the industry.

"Seal Shield has a growing presence in the healthcare market in the UK and that's an opportunity that is growing and which we will be addressing through our dedicated public sector team," he said.

"We also see great potential for Seal Shied products in education and in the consumer and business markets. Awareness of infection control is now much greater and health-conscious employers and home users will be eager to learn more about washable accessories and covers. As well as resellers specialising in health and education, we will be looking to work with partners addressing retail and B2B."
