Microsoft sets the date to unveil the future of Windows

Microsoft expected to hold business-focused Windows 9 event in San Francisco on 30 September

Windows 9 is expected to be unveiled at the end of the month at a US event aimed at business users, according to reports.

Invitations to the "Windows event" – which will be held in San Francisco on 30 September – have been sent out to US press already.

Re/code claims that Microsoft will make early Windows 9 code available to developers and businesses so they can get a sneak peek ahead of general release. It added that the event will be aimed mainly at business users, with other gatherings planned to market the product to other user groups.

The new OS will follow the launch of the divisive Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, to which some users took a dislike due to its dramatically different design.

Despite a somewhat shaky start, last month, the combined market share for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 grew at the fastest sequential rate since XP support ended, according to NetMarketShare.

IDC claims the launch of Windows 9 could boost demand for PCs, but it cautiously added that it would be hard to gauge the real impact of the new OS until its functionality is more apparent.
