Dixons Carphone rescues some Phones 4U staff

All 800 concession-shop employees to be offered roles at Currys PC World

Dixons Carphone has announced on Twitter that it will offer jobs to all Phones 4U staff working in its Currys PC World concession stores.

Phones 4U went into administration on Monday, putting the jobs of its 5,600 staff at risk. About 800 of those employees worked in the 160 Dixons Carphone concession shops around the country and have been offered a lifeline by the retailer today.

The firm took to Twitter to announce the news.

"Pleased to confirm we have secured agreement to offer all Phones4U colleagues (circa 800) in our @curryspcworld stores roles," it said.

As the news of Phones 4U's administration broke, Dixons Carphone chief executive Sebastian James said helping staff in his firm's concession shops was a top priority.

"With regards to our Phones 4U shop-in-shop colleagues, we hope to help them secure new jobs with us and will be opening up discussions with the administrators to agree what we can do," he said on his Twitter page on Monday.

"We need to beat the world record for getting 160 stores opened to look after our customers."
