Blue Chip finishes refresh for Sunseeker yachts

Motoryacht maker Sunseeker International revamps virtualised infrastructure

Blue Chip has inked a deal and performed a virtual-IT refresh for luxury motoryacht manufacturer Sunseeker International.

The deal, worth £500,000, covers infrastructure technologies from VMware, Citrix, EMC and Veeam.

Ageing core enterprise technology was already virtualised by Blue Chip back in 2007, but new hardware has been installed with a view to boosting performance, functionality, resilience and future-proofing.

Anthony Green, sales and marketing director at Blue Chip, said that despite its prior relationship it had been invited to tender against two other companies for the refresh.

"Our proposal provided a forward-thinking, end-to-end solution that embraced new technologies while incorporating project design, implementation and our 24/7 support," Green said.

The boat maker has seen data volumes expand annually which meant a "rethink" of its IT strategy, according to Blue Chip.

Additionally, Blue Chip provided the firm with disaster recovery and new backup capabilities via its datacentre facilities. The reseller will continue to provide full support and maintenance via its 24/7 service desk for the company, which operates across different time zones.

Richard Strange is IT director at Sunseeker International, one of whose motoryachts is pictured.

"I have found Blue Chip to be extremely consistent in project design and delivery, as well as providing a robust 24/7 support environment," Strange said.

"The Sunseeker infrastructure team is often stretched due to its small size and the breadth of technology that it has to support. Partnerships like the one we have with Blue Chip are therefore vital."

The infrastructure refresh project was a "significant" investment for the business, he said, and Blue Chip's solution design had been cost-effective and managed from start to finish, ensuring minimal impact on the business operation.
