SCC grabs datacentre from energy giant SSE

Hampshire facility will become SCC's second datacentre alongside existing Birmingham location

Corporate reseller SCC has kept on the acquisition trail by snapping up a datacentre owned by energy giant SSE.

SCC's purchase of SSE Enterprise Telecoms' Hampshire facility hands it a second tier-three-plus datacentre in the south.

This will complement its existing datacentre in Birmingham, the capacity of which it is also in the process of expanding to 900 racks.

SCC swallowed up print VAR M2 Digital in February and chief executive James Rigby promised more M&A activity would follow this year when CRN caught up with him in May, highlighting annuity services as a target area.

Of the latest purchase, Rigby (pictured) said: "This is a significant acquisition, from a major FTSE 100 company, which represents another major step towards our goal to become Europe's principal IT services business.

"We set out this ambition in our three-to-five-year plan. The purchase of SSE Enterprise Telecoms' datacentre more than doubles our capacity to support existing and new customers, and underpins the £50m spent on developing our datacentre and cloud capabilities last year."

SCC claims its datacentre and cloud services business grew 69 per cent last year on the back of new customer wins with the likes of IBM and Highways Agency. It highlighted its secure government cloud service, Sentinel by SCC, as a key revenue driver.
