Interoute buys Vtesse, eyes further expansion

Cloud services platform will be rolled out over England, Scotland and Wales

Cloud services platform provider Interoute Communications has bought out Hertford-based datacentre and WAN rival Vtesse Group for an undisclosed sum.

Canary Wharf-based Interoute claims to be owner-operator of Europe's largest cloud services platform, with offices in 15 countries, and Vtesse's datacentre will add connections to 55 datacentres in the UK connecting 48 towns across England, Scotland and Wales.

Vtesse served channel companies including Logicalis and Redstone as well as the likes of IBM.

Gareth Williams, chief executive of Interoute, said the acquisition gives Interoute a twelfth datacentre in Europe and adds about 7,000km of UK networking to its 60,000km across Europe.

"When you look at the options for European businesses wanting to take advantage of flexible, scalable cloud infrastructure, they are often limited to the public cloud providers that think Europe can be served by one European datacentre location connected by the public internet," Williams said.

Interoute offers cloud services including unified communications and connectivity for the enterprise, with a focus on business customers.
