Cisco leads way in video infrastructure software market

Total revenue for the market in the last four quarters was $5.6bn according to Synergy Research Group

Cisco heads the pack in the video infrastructure software market with a 20 per cent market share in Q2 2014, according to the latest report from Synergy Research Group.

The research attributed Cisco's lead to its "broad product range and strong presence in all regions".

Following behind Cisco was Nagra with a 14 per cent share of the market and Arris with a nine per cent share. Ericsson, which has five per cent share, however, is the sector's fastest-growing outfit due to its acquisition of Microsoft's IPTV/middleware business, according to the research.

In Q2 2014 video infrastructure software revenue totalled $1.42bn (£880m), a rolling year-on-year increase of six per cent.

Total revenues for the market in the last four quarters were $5.6bn, a seven per cent increase from the previous four quarters.

John Dinsdale, chief analyst and research director at Synergy Research Group said: "Trends in OTT, cloud and service delivery models are all driving an increased focus on video infrastructure software.

"We forecast that over the next five years revenues from video infrastructure software will grow steadily. Excluding content security, annual percentage growth will be in double digits and some segments, such as TV everywhere, cloud DVR and search & recommendation will grow extremely rapidly," Dinsdale said.

Client software is the fastest-growing software category within the video infrastructure software market, followed by headend software. They have grown by 10-20 per cent in the past year while the third major category, content security, has declined.
