Salesforce cuts the ribbon on first European datacentre

Vendor claims new facility demonstrates commitment to UK partners

Salesforce has today opened its first European datacentre in the UK in Slough.

The facility is the first of three planned for Europe, with more expected to be opened in France and Germany in 2015.

Andrew Lawson, senior vice president for UK and Ireland at Salesforce, said: "The opening of Salesforce's first European datacentre underscores our commitment to customers and partners in the UK.

"The new datacentre will support the unprecedented growth we've seen in the region and further accelerates the adoption of cloud, social and mobile technologies, empowering UK companies to connect with their customers in a whole new way."

The Slough hub will be 100 per cent powered by renewable energy.

The news follows on from other vendors opening datacentres in Europe – VMware opened facilities in Chessington and Slough earlier this year, and Amazon Web Services plans to open a cluster in Frankfurt soon.
