Allied Telesis brings Extricom back from the dead

Isreali firm rebuilding its channel after it faced financial difficulty in the summer

Wireless LAN vendor Extricom is looking to rebuild its channel presence and UK business after getting snapped up by Allied Telesis.

CRN understands that over the summer, the Israeli firm's financial backers pulled out, meaning the company effectively ceased trading. But after about five bidders battled it out in Israeli courts over the last few months, Allied Telesis emerged victorious and will take over the once-ailing business.

Extricom will now be a division within Allied Telesis, which has been a customer of the firm for a number of years.

Extricom distie ICON made the announcement this morning and said it will field any enquiries for the vendor in the meantime while it rebuilds its UK team under Allied Telesis.

"Allied Telesis is keen for their customers to know that they want to propel Extricom to even greater heights by growing the Extricom brand and its global market share," ICON said in a statement. "This is all very good news for us."

ICON is a long-standing Extricom distributor which operates mainly in the education space. Varlink is the firm's other's distie and its managing director Mike Pullon said its relaunch is great news for customers.

"We're extremely happy that they are back," he said. "The channel we had was upset they no longer had access to that product - it is different to other products - so we are glad they have a well-financed, alternative owner. We're looking forward to distributing their product again."

ICON insisted Extricom's re-launch demonstrates its commitment to the UK market despite rumours suggesting otherwise.

"Extricom would like their customers to know that some former disgruntled employees are informing customers that Extricom are pulling out of the UK," it said.

"This is not the case, they are currently in the process of recruiting and building a new team for the UK, there are also plans for extra investment and initiatives for the UK which we will hear more about in the coming weeks."
