Glassdoor: Google best place to work in UK

Annual survey by job site reveals how its 'cool culture' propelled it to the top spot

Google has topped the list of best places to work in the UK, according to the latest report from employment site Glassdoor.

The search engine giant, which has three offices across the UK, was praised by its staff for its "cool culture, amazing people and offices to die for", according to Glassdoor.

Google offers its staff free food three times a day, numerous seating areas and a free gym, among other perks. The firm has 70 offices in more than 40 countries and claimed that no two offices were the same, but all feature murals, "sharing cubes", "huddles", video games, pool tables and pianos and fully stocked micro-kitchens.

One Google reviewer wrote: “There are opportunities for anyone who is willing to build a reputation.”

John Lewis came second, with Microsoft third. Other tech firms appearing in the top 10 were mobile phone player Three and Cisco, which came in sixth and seventh respectively.

Microsoft scored points for its work-life balance, according to Glassdoor, with one employee writing: “You will get the opportunity to work with smart people solving real-world problems.”

And Three was praised because management "treated staff like equals and really seemed to care about people”, the report revealed.
