Daisy tackles skills shortage with hiring binge

Comms provider to take on eight new engineers as it looks to break with industry culture of hiring from others

Daisy Group has taken a pop at the industry's notorious ‘rob-Peter-to-pay-Paul' recruitment culture as it looks to give eight engineers a start in the industry.

The comms and IT VAR says it will give extensive training and support to the new starters, who will initially join its tier-one team and be responsible for cabling infrastructures and hardware deployments.

Crucially, the Manchester-based firm says it is doing its bit to end the engineering skills shortage in the channel.

"It is widely-recognised within the IT and telecoms industry that it is difficult to hire highly skilled, qualified engineers without having to recruit from competitors," said Rik Horton, engineering director at Daisy.

"What Daisy wants to do is break that cycle and provide a platform for engineers to develop, ultimately leading to a new breed of engineering talent coming through the business."

The latest recruitment campaign comes as Daisy gears up to offer full-time positions to all participants that took part in its first engineering apprenticeship programme.

Previous engineering experience or a knowledge of data networks and a STEM-related education is preferred for the eight new field-based vacancies, which are spread across the north, Midlands and south, Daisy said.
