Avnet gets elastic with Cisco, EMC and VMware

Distributor and vendor trio launch elastic cloud infrastructure (ECI) to speed up hyper-convergence market

Avnet Technology Solutions has clubbed together with Cisco, EMC and VMware to launch an elastic cloud infrastructure that it claims will help its business partners grab opportunities in the hyper-convergence market.

The platform is aimed at smaller service providers, and mid- to large-sized organisations looking to increase the flexibility and scalability of their next-generation datacentre environments.

According to the distributor, partners can install and deploy Cisco’s UCS servers and EMC’s ScaleIO storage with VMware’s vSphere virtualisation platform to offer one integrated solution.

Avnet claimed the new offering will appeal to SaaS providers that are reluctant to make large initial infrastructure investments, but need to scale resource as demands increase, and also education establishments implementing VDI.

Tom Corrigan, open storage and Cisco business unit leader at Avnet Technology Solutions, UK, said the platform builds on the distributor’s experience in converged infrastructure.

“Working with some of the world’s most trusted technology providers, we have created a powerful addition to Avnet’s portfolio that tightly integrates computing, storage, networking and virtualisation resources in a single package. The rewards for customers are exponential, as they reap significant benefits, operationally and financially,” he said.
