Raspberry Pi breaks UK record
Charity announces it has sold 5 million of its mini computers
The Raspberry Pi Foundation took to Twitter yesterday to announce its miniature computers have become the highest-selling British computers ever.
The Raspberry Pi Foundation announced it had sold five million of its single-board computers (pictured).
Founded in 2009, the Raspberry Pi Foundation is a charity which makes computer boards that are used to help the teaching of basic computer science in schools, and by hobbyists.
It was originally started by four Cambridge University students who were concerned by the lack of programmable hardware for children which they felt was hindering the number of graduates who could program.
News of the British record comes just two weeks after the foundation launched the second version of the computer, the Raspberry Pi 2.
One of Raspberry Pi's founders, Eben Upton, told the BBC the new model is six times faster than the previous model.
