Dell UK now accepting Bitcoins

Consumers and SMB customers can now pay using virtual currency

Dell is now accepting virtual currency Bitcoin in the UK in a move it claims makes it the largest firm to accept it internationally.

Last year, Dell launched a US pilot in which it began accepting Bitcoins in certain divisions of its business and later boasted a sizeable deal worth $50,000 (£32,500) which was paid for with the currency.

Following the pilot, which it claimed was "successful", Dell announced it would now accept Bitcoins in the UK and Canada.

Consumers and small business customers in the countries are now able to buy Dell equipment with Bitcoins.

In a blog post, Dell said Bitcoin has caught on fast.

"This form of payment is clearly resonating with consumer and small and medium businesses," it said. "And now we're excited to take the choice and flexibility this payment option offers global, maintaining our partnership with Coinbase, a trusted and secure third-party payment processor, to make this possible."

Dell's chief information officer Paul Walsh said: "Through the expansion of Bitcoin we're enabling new levels of convenience for our customers, making it easier for them to do business with Dell."
