Juniper: 'We have improved networking more than anyone'

Pradeep Sindhu discusses vendor's technology strategy as new products launched

Juniper has improved the performance of networking, "more than any other company over the last 18 years", according to Pradeep Sindhu, its founder.

Speaking at a press event following a series of new product announcements, Sindhu said that it has been Juniper which has been leading the way in the development of networking.

"Networking holds a very special place [within IT] because it allows us to transcend the limitations of individual elements, and Juniper more than any other company holds a very special place, because it more than any other company has improved the performance of networking over the last 18 years, roughly by doubling it every year since the very first machine we launched in 1998," he said.

"This is a record that is quite [enviable]. I'm not sure we are going to be able to do it for the next decade, but we have managed to do it so far and in fact what you see with the products that we announced the performance improvements are stunning."

These product announcements were made at Juniper's 2015 Innovation Showcase which is taking place in London, and include the QFX10000 line of spine switches, and the QFX10008 and QFX10016.

Juniper underwent a host of changes in 2014, which saw its chief executive, Shaygan Kheradpir depart in November and a reduction in the size of its global workforce by six per cent, but Sindhu was confident in Juniper's strategy looking forward.

He went on to say that Juniper is going to cause "disruption" in the SDN arena.

"Juniper is the company that is going to give meaning to what software-defined networking (SDN) is, by designing and building an orchestration system that is a platform that allows networks to configure, analyse and control networks," he said.

"That is the company's strategy, it is a two-dimensional strategy: one is continuing to improve the performance of networking and security elements; and the second is automation which is delivering centralised yet software-based systems which are platforms on which you can write applications that allow networks to be agile, be efficient and deliver insights that can be used to make money," he said.
