Amazon leaps further into IoT with 2lemetry buy
Online retail giant acquires Internet of Things specialist and remains schtum on plans
Online giant Amazon has acquired Internet of Things (IoT) specialist 2lemetry for an undisclosed sum.
The firm has not yet said what it plans to do with the company, which was founded in 2011 and claims to be the only provider to specialise in a software-based approach with an open enablement platform.
It boasts customers in a range of industries including transport, oil and gas, manufacturing, mining and industrial machines.
In a statement on its website, 2lemetry said: “As you may have heard, Amazon has acquired 2lemetry. Our existing service has not changed, and with Amazon we will offer our same customer support. We still have the same name and branding as before.”
Amazon’s most recent FY2014 results showed the firm’s net sales increased 20 per cent to $88.9bn, compared with £74.4bn in 2013, but the firm went from net profit of $274m in 2013, to a net loss of $241m in 2014.
