Manchester VAR JMC grabbed by IT Lab

London reseller IT Lab claims buy will make it a 'truly national' player

Manchester reseller JMC IT has been acquired by London firm IT Lab in a move which creates a £30m reseller.

IT Lab offers IT consultancy and support throughout the capital and the south-east and claims the acquisition of Microsoft partner JMC – which closed for an undisclosed amount – will make it a "truly national" player thanks to the latter's strong presence in the north-west.

Together the firms will have a combined turnover of nearly £30m and will have 300 staff serving 750 SMB and mid-market customers across the UK. After a "period of transition", JMC will be integrated under the IT Lab brand.

IT Lab's chief executive Peter Sweetbaum will remain in the role and Andrew Burgess, JMC IT's managing director, will become director of integration and a non-executive director of IT Lab.

Sweetbaum said the future is bright for the combined companies.

"From the very first time we talked to JMC, we were hugely excited," he said. "It was immediately clear we shared the same values and dedication to excellent customer service and had highly complementary skills, services and geographies.

"JMC is a real force within IT and has proven itself time and time again. We are excited by the innovation and opportunities that will arise from joining two dynamic and driven teams and are looking forward to harnessing this capability for all our clients."

JMC's Burgess added: "We are delighted to be joining forces with IT Lab to create one of the UK's largest technology and managed services providers, and are confident the new company will offer new opportunities to staff and clients alike. For some time, we have felt that so much more could be achieved if JMC could extend its range of service offerings, increase its capacity and capability, and extend its geographical coverage – and IT Lab was the perfect fit."
