Ancoris hails landmark G-Cloud win

Google partner helps government staff access and share documents while delivering aid and development projects

Ancoris has talked up an IT deal it won through G-Cloud to help a central government department deliver aid and development projects across the world.

The Google reseller won a contract with the Department for International Development (DFID) and rolled it out in just four weeks.

Ancoris helped the DFID use Google Sites, part of the Google Apps suite, to assist its staff in sharing and accessing documents when delivering projects overseas. About 40 sites were set up by Ancoris in the first two months of the project.

One DFID site included in the rollout helps to manage the procurement of goods and equipment being sent overseas, including emergency supplies being distributed to Sierra Leone, Ancoris said.

Richard Franklin, service delivery manager at DFID, said the government's SME-friendly agenda has worked in favour of his department in this case.

"Procuring Google Apps through G-Cloud, which encourages the use of SMEs such as Ancoris, has given DFID the chance to work with a smaller partner rather than a large system integrator and it has been a really positive and constructive experience," he said. "Ancoris' hands-on approach ensured we met our migration deadline and delivered a working solution to the business."

David McLeman, CEO of Ancoris, said: "Google Sites is a really simple way for government departments to achieve greater agility. The collaborative nature and flexibility of Google Apps for Work has helped DFID to get the right information to the right people, at the right time, wherever they are in the world."
